Issues

Affordable Housing

CCISCO leaders are engaged in campaigns to help families save their homes by pressuring lenders to modify loans at reasonable terms, expand resources for homeownership and tenant counseling and increase the supply of affordable housing at new proposed developments in Contra Costa County.

Citizenship & Immigrant Integration

CCISCO believes that civic participation is the key to addressing the issues that face our community. For this reason, CCISCO is part of the PICO Bay Area Citizenship & Civic Engagement Campaign which conducts citizenship drives throughout the Bay Area.

As people of faith, we do not want immigration reform to become mired in partisan politics. Instead, we call for an answer that is humane, realistic and responsible while also serving our nations economic and security needs. CCISCO advocates for pathways to citizenship, the Dream Act and for policies that expedite the reunification of immigrant families.

Education

We believe that by empowering parents and students and building strong relationships between the school and family, we can create schools where every student graduates prepared for life. For this reason, CCISCO parent and youth leaders are working to develop local campaigns to improve parent engagement and increase student achievement.

Environment

CCISCO leaders are actively campaigning to promote equitable, transit-oriented development in East County along the new eBART stations proposed for Pittsburg and Antioch. Leaders actively campaign to integrate local hiring policies and affordable housing into the proposed new transit villages. CCISCO is also a member of the East County Environmental Justice Collaborative which is organizing to address environmental justice issues in Bay Point and Pittsburg.

Health Access

CCISCO has worked over the years to expand and improve access to the Basic Health Services program, which is a model for health service delivery to all low-income families and individuals who are uninsured and reside in Contra Costa County.

Violence Prevention

We believe that the solution to violence prevention requires investing in our communities and youth and creating pathways to opportunity. At the moment, CCISCO is working to make job opportunity and community policing a successful approach to the violence that prevails throughout the county.
